Everybody knows that there’s no class on Wednesday Nov. 11, right? What you don’t know is that there has been a minor alteration in the syllabus. The Nov. 16 and 18 lectures have been re-arranged: the last shall be first and the first shall be last. I’ll lecture on the Beats on that Wednesday.

Also: we will not have seminar on Wednesday Nov. 25. Not that anyone was planning to attend anyway.

We’re almost done with this course. In the next serveral weeks we’ll plow through the Cold War, the 60s, and the near-contemporary era– an absurd project, given the complexities and ambiguities of the post-war period. In other words, this course can only open the door. If you want to understand American history and culture comprehensively more work awaits.
