Paper/ Film
2009 November 3
The assignment for the paper is available at the American Civilization page.
We’ll be watching Double Indemnity at our regular location on Wednesday. Then we’ll watch the rest of it in our seminar room.
Below: a still from Double Indemnity. What can you tell about the world these two characters inhabit? Think about Adorno’s essay.

oh yeah here’s a link to my recent blog post that has three pictures from the AB 656 rally

This picture is totally Adorno-ian. The market products are almost taking up the entire shot. This symbolizes the whole consumer culture idea and how it takes up a big part of our lives.
I did not like the movie, not because the story wasn’t compelling or the acting was bad but because of the feelings I felt while viewing it. During the scene where Walter Neff kills the husband and all we see is Ms. Dietrichson’s face, I got really angry. It reminds me of the first time I watched “Saw” where incredibly horrible things are taking place. Except in “Saw” I kept waiting for justice to be served-
- and it wasn’t.
Then they made nineteen more of them but I will never watch them. It’s sick. (not “sick” in the slang teenage way either)
At least in DI the characters all get what they deserve. I’m way too much of an optimist to watch this Film Noir stuff, but I get its appeal and respect its ability to pull me into the story.

“Saw” on the other hand, is just f***ing demented.
